NGO moves HC to prosecute Bukhari
NEW DELHI, July 25 (PTI) — A petition seeking registration of a case against Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Abdullah Bukhari for allegedly declaring himself as an ISI agent at a public meeting, promoting disharmony and waging a war against the country was today moved before the Delhi High Court.
The petition by the Society for Securing Justice (SSJ), an NGO sought the registration of a case under Sections 121 (waging or attempting to wage war against the country), 124 (sedition), 153 (provocation for causing riots) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) against Imam Bukhari for allegedly making a provocative speech at a rally here on April 21.
SSJ’s counsel Arun K. Srivastava told a Division Bench, comprising Mr Justice Usha Mehra and Mr Justice S.N.Kapoor, that the Imam in his speech had asserted that he would go to Ayodhya to lay the foundation of Babri Masjid and had allegedly attacked the policy of secularism enshrined in the Constitution.
